Topographical surveys
A topographical survey maps the land around a building: its levels, boundaries and every visible feature. It is usually the first drawing a planning application or site layout needs.
What you receive
- Spot levels and contours tied to Ordnance Datum
- Boundaries, fences, walls and gates
- Trees with trunk positions, canopy spreads and heights
- Drainage covers with cover and invert levels where accessible
- Buildings, kerbs, paths and hard surfaces
- AutoCAD (.dwg) and PDF files
When you need one
- Submitting a planning application
- Designing a new building, extension or landscaping scheme
- Assessing a development site before buying
- Planning drainage or groundworks
How we do it
We set up survey control on site and capture the land using a total station, GPS and laser scanning, depending on the site. Results are plotted in AutoCAD with consistent layers so they drop straight into your project files.
Questions
Do I need a topographical survey or a measured building survey?
A topographical survey covers the land and its features. A measured building survey covers the building itself. Many projects need both, and we can do them in the same visit.
Will the survey show underground services?
It shows visible features such as drainage covers. Buried pipes and cables need a utility survey, which we also carry out, often in the same visit.
